The problem
The Jaguar Land Rover 2.0-litre Ingenium engine — found in some of their most popular models — is known for premature timing chain stretch. The chain, tensioners and guides wear faster than expected, causing the chain to slacken and the valve timing to drift out of specification.
Left unchecked, a stretched timing chain can skip teeth on the sprockets or snap entirely, leading to catastrophic engine damage where the pistons collide with the valves. What starts as a cold-start rattle can end up as a new engine.
Our approach
We've carried out plenty of Ingenium timing chain replacements in our workshop. We replace the complete timing chain kit — chain, tensioners, guides, and sprockets where needed — using OE-quality components.
The gearbox and various other components need to be removed to access the timing chain, so this is typically a 2–3 day job. We'd rather the job done properly, not just quickly. All parts and labour are guaranteed for 12 months.
